How to Identify if You Have a Concrete Wall Foundation
If the concrete comes all the way up to the bottom of the floor joists and sits on a sill plate you would have a full height concrete foundation wall.
The Full Height Concrete Wall Problem
- The sill plate and floor joist system is not connected to the foundation.
- The connection between the sill plate and the joist system needs to be remedied if your house was built before the invention of plywood.
The Full Height Concrete Wall Retrofit Solution
- Connect the sill plate down to the foundation with Simpson Universal Foundation Plates (UFP) or Simpson Foundation Anchor Plates (FAP).
- Connect the sill plate up to the joist system with Simpson Lateral Tie Brackets.
